A non-graded, continuous educational program
is developed in accordance with the results of a multi-factored
evaluation. Certified teachers, teacher assistants, and therapists
augment regular instruction and provide support services. Students
are enrolled in regular academic and non-academic classes where
appropriate, in accordance with Individualized Education Programs.
Programs for the Orthopedically Handicapped and Other Health
Impaired are located at three (3) elementary schools, two (2) middle
schools and (1) high school.

Equipment and devices to aid ambulation
are employed, along with adaptive therapeutic equipment, in the
educational program of these students.

Speech/Language Pathologists, physical
therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and teacher
assistants provide support services for students with a variety of
health needs. In addition, medical consultation is encouraged on a
continuing basis.

Intervention Specialist
-
- The Intervention Specialist
for the Orthopedically Handicapped (OH) and Other Health
Impairment (OHI) provides services to students meeting the
eligibility criteria for full time placement in the general
education classroom with the provision of supplemental aids and
services.

- In addition the Intervention Specialist also:
-
- Assists in developing an
Individual Education Plan (IEP)
- Assists the general education
teacher in meeting the specific needs of the student
- Identify, procure, and coordinate
appropriate supplemental educational materials and equipment as
needed
- Provide information to school
personnel regarding the needs of the student
- Provide assistance to the parent
in obtaining information on educational needs of
the Orthopedic Handicapped or Other Health Impaired student
- Locate related services in the
school district or community
- Evaluate the student’s
performance and attendance as required on the IEP

- The Intervention Specialist
routinely visits students and school personnel to implement
necessary services. In addition, the specialist
will work as an advocate for students and may access outside
resources to further enhance teaching and learning within the
general education classroom.
