Intervention Based Assessment (IBA)

What is the Intervention Based Assessment Team?

The Intervention Based Assessment (IBA) Team is a group of professionals who meet to discuss the academic and/or behavioral concerns of children. The team may include teachers, principals, school psychologists, speech/language therapists, representatives from community agencies, and the parent of the child.  The team uses a problem-solving approach to discuss concerns about your child. We will then identify goals to improve your child's school

What is our purpose?

The purpose of the IBA Team is to provide your child with the best opportunities to learn and participate in the regular education program and to improve his/her school performance.

Not every child learns the same way. The team will take into account your child's needs and attempt to discover the most effective ways to increase positive learning and behavior.

What should you expect?

Our meetings are organized and timed in order to use the time productively. There will be a printed agenda to help us stay focused.

The team follows three guiding principles:

  • Collaboration (working together)
  • Consensus (group decision making)
  • No-Fault (not blaming others)
  1. We use a problem-solving model to help us develop a plan of action. The process consists of the following steps:
  2. Teacher and parent(s) share their concerns about the student.
  3. Together, we decide upon specific goals for your child.
  4. We will then discuss possible ideas that will help your child reach the goals.
  5. We choose the best of these ideas to to be put into an action plan.
  6. Within approximately one month of the first meeting, we will meet again to decide if the goals have been met and to consider any additional concerns.

What is your role as a team member?

As professional educators, we believe that parents have an important role in their children's education. We hope that you will support our efforts and will make a commitment to work with us to help your child. Please try to follow the recommendations of the team as best you can. If you have any questions about the plan, please contact your child's teacher
